Wrapping Up The Reckoning and Looking to 2024

By T.J. Birkel

One month from today, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will play a game of American football. One month, Common Fans. I can almost smell the Fairbury hot dogs and see the perfectly-placed Dylan Raiola touchdown passes. We’re almost there.

Last week completed The Reckoning Series on the Common Fan Podcast, taking an in-depth look at the post-Osborne era of Nebraska football. I would humbly suggest this series ended up being a fairly comprehensive overview of the last 25 years of Nebraska football. We hope you enjoyed it.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch or listen to all the episodes, or have yet to begin the series, fear not! Links to every episode can be found below. I hope you’ll share it with other Husker fans who may enjoy it as well. The reception and engagement among the fan base has been the most enjoyable part of The Reckoning.

A special, major THANK YOU to Brandon Vogel of The Counter Read, who joined us for every episode, and provided a unique voice and perspective (not to mention invaluable advice to an amateur fan podcast) as part of this project. Thank you Brandon. Thanks also to the featured guests who joined us for the individual episodes: Mike Babcock, Mitch Sherman, Sam McKewon, Brian Christopherson, Evan Bland, and Mike’l Severe. We greatly appreciate your contributions, candor, insight, and phenomenal stories.

Here at the Common Fan Podcast, we’re just getting started. Make sure to check out this week’s episode featuring longtime sports broadcaster Tim Brando, who shares his thoughts on the Huskers, Matt Rhule, Memorial Stadium, and more. We’ll continue to have new episodes every week leading up to football season, and then we’ll ramp up to two episodes per week during the season. We can’t wait to watch and cheer right alongside our fellow Common Fans as the Huskers take off in Year 2 of the Rhule era!

Remember, it’s time to believe in Nebraska football again. And in the meantime, GBR for LIFE.
